Collection Development Policy

This living document was compiled by the Massasoit Library staff to capture the major ideas that guided the decision making processes across disciplines.

Early College Collection

The Early College Collection (also known as the PEAR collection- Popular, Leisurely, Accessible Reading)  contains both fiction and non-fiction print materials in a variety of subject matters to support our community’s emerging college readers. Some materials could be categorized as Young Adult, and include books that are well suited for students in pre-college level English and Academic ESOL courses. Multiple copies may be purchased for this collection or, in the case of highly circulated titles, eBook versions may also be purchased.

Graphic Novels

Materials in the graphic novels sections contain fiction and non-fiction and are actively purchased by any Faculty Librarian if the content pertains to their liaison area. The criteria for inclusion in this collection is the graphic format, defined as a full length story or narrative published as a book in comic-strip form, using visual representations as the storytelling tool.

Native American Collection

The Native American Collection contains reference materials, fiction, and non-fiction works actively curated by the Libraries staff. The primary criteria for inclusion is authorship by an Indigenous person or whose subject matter pertains to any Native American people or land within the continent of North America.

Typography Collection

Housed in the Canton library, this collection requires active assessment of individual typographer coverage to support the Typography class.
