Course Reserves

As part of the Library's ongoing commitment to support faculty during this time, we are offering assistance with course reserves.

  1. For FY2022, we will try to purchase the electronic version of the textbook for your class.
  2. If purchase is not possible, we are able to scan segments of the reserve resource and make that available for your students.
Note: This assumes that the book is already on reserve in the library, or will be provided by the faculty for scanning.

The types of items most frequently placed on reserve are:

  • Books
  • DVDs

 Checkout period:

  • 2 hours
  • Item stays in library*

  Removing items from reserve:

  • Items can be removed from Reserve temporarily or permanently by their owners at any time.
  • Items that have not been checked out in two years will be removed from the Reserve shelf.

NOTE: Workbooks and other consumables (items intended for one-time use) cannot be placed on reserve.

*Instructors can make items available for use outside the Library; however, fewer students are able to access them and it is harder to keep track of the items.

Using an eBook for Textbook

Library resources can be used in OER courses, but they are considered alternative OERs as they are not free to redistribute and reuse in the same way as traditional OER materials. Journal articles, streaming videos, and eBooks can be linked to in Canvas and some databases are connected to Canvas as a direct embedding tool (see instructions below).

If you want to use library resources as part of your OER options in your course, please contact Kay Neary for more information.
