Student Use of Massasoit Library

by Erin McCoy on 2020-03-21T09:51:00-04:00 in General Information | 0 Comments

Physical Access to Library:

  • Massasoit students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to access the library’s resources and services via the library website (https://library.massasoit.edu), email (askalibrarian@massasoit.mass.edu), or phone (508-588-9100 x1941). Library users should only visit the library in person if absolutely necessary.
  • Only Massasoit students, faculty, and staff may access the library. All visitors must present their Massasoit ID upon arriving. No exceptions!
  • Users are not permitted to bring non-Massasoit guests into the library, including children (see above re: Massasoit ID requirement).

Do not visit the library if you:

  • have a cough, fever, or cold or flu-like symptoms;
  • have recently traveled to a highly infected area; or
  • have been in contact with someone known or suspected to have COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms.

Procedure Upon Entering

  • All library users must check in and check out at the circulation desk. Staff will direct users to an area of the library appropriate for the users’ needs. Users requesting use of a computer will be directed to check in and check out with the computer monitor stationed at the reference desk.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the library. This includes closed containers and bottled drinks.

Social Distancing:

  • Library staff and users are instructed to maintain a distance of 6-8 feet from others.
  • Library users must stay behind the tape lines around the circulation and reference desks when asking for assistance unless instructed to do otherwise by a staff member. (For example, when passing materials across the desk, users should wait until the staff member has retreated to a safe distance and instructed them to retrieve the materials.)
  • The library furniture has been arranged to enforce social distancing. Library users are not allowed to move furniture.
  • Group study is not allowed in the library.
  • Instructional posters have been created to limit staff and user interaction and maintain social distancing. Library staff will not be able to provide hands-on assistance at this time.

Services:

  • Library users are not allowed into the stacks. If a user needs to access an item from the stacks, they must ask a member of the library staff to retrieve it for them.
  • There are Instructional handouts at the computers and copiers to guide users through technology questions. Staff will not be available to sit down with users at this time.

Return Policies:

  • Massasoit Library is not accepting book returns at this time, and the outdoor book drop has been closed.
  • Items used in-house, such as items on reserve, can be returned to the cart in front of the circulation desk.
  • Library users may disregard any emails notifying them of overdue items. All library fines will be waived upon return of the item.
