In 2002, after one year as Interim President, Dr. Charles Wall became the 5th President of Massasoit Community College. Dr. Wall has extensive Community College experience having served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at Northwestern Connecticut Community College (1986-1995) and the President of Greenfield Community College (1995-2000). He also spent a year as Deputy Chancellor of the Board of Higher Education in Massachusetts before he came to Massasoit in 2001.
Dr. Wall’s educational accomplishments include an A.B. in History with High Honors from Bates College in 1967, an M.A. in History from the University of Virginia in 1969, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Virginia in 1978.
In 1973, Dr. Wall began his teaching career at Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake, Virginia as an Assistant Professor and went on to achieve Associate Professor rank and served as Division Chairman of Humanities and Social Sciences from 1975 to 1979. From 1979 to 1986 he taught at Ferrum College in Virginia as an Assistant Professor of History, Associate Professor, and as a Professor. He was also the Coordinator of the International Studies Degree Program from 1985 to 1986 and Acting Division Chairman of Social Sciences from January to July in 1985.
During Dr. Wall’s time as President, Massasoit Community College has seen constant growth in both numbers of students and programs. He is very active in the CONNECT partnership. CONNECT is a partnership of the six public higher education institutions in Southeastern Massachusetts: Bridgewater State University, Bristol Community College, Cape Cod Community College, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Massasoit Community College, and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. In 2007 President Wall signed the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment which states that that the signers and their institutions will provide leadership in the area of sustainability. In 2010, Massasoit Community College’s Climate Action Plan was created.
